Truthfully, it is not a sin to use makeup or hair dye.
However, should we become obsessed with our looks, or spend unreasonable amounts of time or money on such things, then vanity would be an issue.
Even when questioned if we are using makeup or hair dye we can simply say "that is personal" although we should avoid telling a lie.
The above holds true for clothing and jewerly - even products that enhance our looks is perfectly acceptable!
Furthermore, we must remember and know where to draw the line - different forms of cosmetic surgery which cater only to our vanity may be sinful, if they reflect too great an emphasis on our physical appearance, as opposed to our spiritual condition, or if the cost of the surgery prevents us from meeting our financial obligations.
