How can the free market help the poor without any social security (Welfare)?

Free market capitalism is about the freedom to use personal resources to help others and to expect to keep reward for doing so. The resources can be anything of value such as wealth, knowledge, time, ability, etc.. By welfare, I presume you are concerned first with the people who provide no value to anyone to obtain reward. The aged may fit that category, but they'd have reached that situation from a lifetime of indentured service and taxes to the state. In a free market, aged would have accumulated wealth (defined as the ability to accomplish something). The aged would be the most wealthy. People are generous when they are wealthy. Those that become poor would be helped from a multitude of wealthy individuals that wish to.
