follow people in your area, and ppl you know.
talk to people. i started out like you and somehow now i have 225 followers.
twitter isnt about numbers its about broadcasting and networking with people.
it takes time to build up friends/followers who are GENUINE. you could have 1000s of followers but they would all be obsessed with increasing their followers.
use hashtags!
write inspirational / cool things which will probably get you a retweet.
