Why do strangers follow me on Twitter?

I first joined Twitter in January of 2011. Within minutes after joining, I was followed by people who are complete strangers. I decided to follow back my followers and the trend continued. Then in December of 2011, I blocked and unfollowed followers whose tweets I didn't care about. However, strangers still followed me. These are the types of people I follow on Twitter: News organizations and their various profiles which each tweet about specific types of news such as politics, world news, celebrities, health, lifestyle, sports, anything under the sun (New York Times, CNN, Huffington Post, TIME, LA Time, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, Etc.); Tech companies, (HP, Google, Apple, etc,); Tech news websites; Various smartphone apps I use, people who tweet words of wisdom/inspirational quotes; and people I know, who make up the smallest number of people I follow.

The strangers who follow me tend to be obscure news websites, profiles that simply tweet news wherever they find it, and people trying to sell their products. There are never any average, "normal" people who follow me. They all have an agenda of some kind.

See Twitter is a free platform to connect with each other freely around the world, by following them simply, but see if you find the people are useless or spam or Marketers type on twitter, then you should not follow back, by this way his/her tweet will not come up in your twitter feed, only your following tweets showing it to you, Your tweet will show to you followers, so its not harm if you have more numbers of followers, but its depends on you how you react, are you following him/her or react to it?
