Is social media and technology ruining society?
Is social media and technology ruining society or do people just not know how to limit it and use it properly

Im 20 years old and while I might have grown up at the time that all these new computers and things were becoming advanced i still remember a time when people would actually interact with each other

I work at a restaurant and I frequently see people not talking to each other they are just staring at their smart phones and probably on facebook
I have friends who when they invite me to hang out hardly talk to me they just stare and their phone or if they do talk to me they ask me did you see this photo on facebook did you see that post

so my question is Do people just not know how to handle it correctly or is it just become a part of life

I agree, I don't like it either. People are so attached to their smartphones! It's society

It's purely the person himself/herself that can't handle it, they feel and urge to be connected 24/7, it's like a drug addiction. If you try to get them off their phones, they will get angry quickly, it's a new type of addiction I read about in a health magazine. More and more office workers and young people get addicted to their phone, but don't realise this and will look for excuses. Just try to tell them what they're doing and maybe help em get off the phone once a while Smile

In some ways, yes. I agree. Facebook is a prime example. We no longer talk to each other in person. We believe we are "talking to our friends" using social media when in reality it's antisocial and narcissistic. Only sites that are really productive are the sites linking professionals. For those who like drama Facebook and twitter or are for them.

i went swimming at a hotel a few months ago and there were these two girls half in the pool but were also on their phones. They were in that same position for about an hour.
We were the same age, but i was swimming and having fun at the pool, as you should at a pool...

I think people just get so used to having technology, they cant let it go. They become materialistic. A lot of girls i know like facebook because friends post everything on there and they like to absorb everything

Can this be fixed, do you think?

Ur ques is rational.is just about the social intercourse of media communication.it is nowadays a reliable commodity.so it just a reliable and just can be used.so people can use it in their way in their conception.if people try ,they may use it in weak access which is a horrible moment for the humanity .u know in this world there are various kinds people with various kinds of minds.some are good ,some are bad.and Internet is accessible anyone can use it.so people forgetting their ethnic identity of caste and Creed using it with a new manner.so bad identity expressing their manner with this social communication.so in this term it is bad for humanity.but there are uncountable of benefits people may have by internet in this term it is very useful.simply it is depended on humanity.it is bad for weak people but good for active people.it is used by all kind of manner.

Some years from now they'll synth us with technology because we will have become so efficient...at relying on technology for everything, we'll build it up and it will tear us down, because we will pour such an extensive amount of knowledge into our software and programming etc...We'll build skynet essentialy. We'll be eradicated. All because of steve jobs and steve wozniack, two disciples from hell.

I think we might well have reached Durkheims stage of anomie where meanings have leached out of daily life - Apparently we are in the post modernist era where we would expect to know nothing maybe people feel some reassurance despite their fear for having something in their pocket which can connect them to something that feels safe- We are a risk averse society and yet the risks keep piling up and we are less happy than when we were at war or post war building up the country - Its weird I dont like it and have never owned a mobile phone - I hate how they make everyone so uncaring of what is here and now in order to focus on something far away - It smells of fear.
