Why do people claim someone is a "Facebook Stalker" if they look at their profile?

Sometimes people say, "Oh they're facebook stalking me." How is that stalking? Seriously, anything that a person puts up on the INTERNET like photos, personal info, etc, etc. is made to be public for anyone to see. There really is no such thing as privacy when it comes to facebook.

They aren't actually stalking, and the person knows that. They are just saying that because it's easier to say "facebook stalking" then "you were looking at my profile yesterday."

I agree with you! It's amazing to me what some people will post in the internet or text to someone's phone.
Anyone with half a brain should know that information can be traced and made public.
Maybe what they mean by "facebook stalker" is they have too many unwanted comments or wall posts from a certain person. idk

I do say it about myself, if I say "I am SUCH a facebook stalker!" - obviously I know I'm not doing anything really weird like actual stalking because as you said, there is "no such thing as privacy when it comes to facebook". I think the "stalking" bit comes in when looking at people who you are friends with on facebook but don't really know that well in 'real life', or even looking at people who you aren't friends with (who are maybe friends of friends) and finding out more about them than you would know if it weren't for facebook (generally not deliberately, but by looking on profiles you learn things about a person whether you mean to or not).

Whoever said that is flat out wrong. Here is the definiton of stalk:

to pursue or approach prey, quarry, etc., stealthily.

Well, if you excepted their friend request, how is that stalking? Isn't this the point of facebook?
