Anyone here thinks that social media can help eradicate corruption?
For the first time in modern history, Filipinos are learning the truth about our politicians, thanks to Internet news, talk radios and Facebook.

Social Media is a very powerful tool, just ask Carabuena!

Social media unites us, the politicians are being exposed, especially the "Epals".

It's so easy to destroy someone's name, like what happened to Tito Sotto, all you have to do is share a photo. It can also glorify one's name like Robredo.

What do you think? Will this play a big role in the next elections?

Can the enlightened "netizens" out-vote the masses?

"Eradicate corruption" I think you used the wrong term.So what your saying is that social media such as twitter,Facebook will get rid of corruption? Answer is NO,it will help only insignificantly and in the tiniest way.As long as there is religion, uneducated and brainwashed sheep, there will always be corruption. You cannot change the ways of the Filipinos, like they say,"Rome wasn't built in a day" it will take years before The Philippines sees any drastic changes, politically and financially.Plus, people just don't care about the country, most just want to have fun and live there life drinking or playing billiards while the country rots(Wait,it's already rotten)Most have a false sense of pride and deny to believe the truth. That's what's wrong with the Philippines today.

did it ever occur to you that social media can also be used as propaganda?

i get it. those like Carabuena (and caught on cam), Tito Sotto, "epals"... we hate them because they're stupid, although it's nothing we already don't know. social media just gives us a reason to flame them for being themselves.

but say i'm a politician who wanted to destroy my opponent by posting pics, videos, or tweets that don't tell the whole story. social media could be used for spreading a lie the same way it's used for exposing people.

in the end, it really depends on how people think regardless of whatever they see on social networking sites or even memes. for the record, i don't think netizens outnumber registered voters that don't have a facebook/twitter account or have access to the Internet.

On the contrary, it's actually promoting Yellow zombie propaganda. Look at Rappler and online Inquirer for instance.

No.

Apart from starting to become informative from all these current events and some interesting facts as well as being able to be persuaded by intelligent/arrogant/chaotic netizens, all you can get in social media are infinite rants, jokes, threats and much more disappointment. Not so much significant actions to push for the improvement of our government in the future at all.

As for you, fellow yapper, carefully examine how these social media functions and how it will positively affect our society and the likes of you. Attempting to apply one's favored goal towards the social media might not even meet your utmost expectations.
