If Jesus is the Messiah in Islam, why is Muhammad more important?

Please read the article "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History." written by Michael H Hart an American astrophysicist. He is a Christian. He is a Professor of astronomy, physics and the history of science. He says, "My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular level."

Both Jesus and Mohammed (peace be upon them) were prophets and messengers sent by Allah. Mohammed (pbuh) is the final and seal of the prophets. This gives more importance to him.

Because the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) spreaded islam. Jesus (pbuh) is the messiah, because he has not been killed yet, and he will return to fight the anti christ and will eventually die. And Jesus (pbuh) didn't succeed like Muhammad (pbuh)

In Islam the word Messiah means messenger, Jesus is acknowledged as one of the great prophets and his mother Mary is revered.
In Judaism the Messiah, who has not yet come to earth is the awaited Saviour of the Jewish people.
The word has also been used to mean a servant of God.

In Islam, we don't have popularity games.
http://quran.com/3/84

Prophets are selected from among the best of their communities,
and they each have a specific "maqasid" or role to fulfill.

[1]: Prophet Muhammad's role:
Intercessor on the Day of Judgement & Seal of Prophecy
sent to all mankind through the line of Abraham's oldest firstborn son.

[2]: Jesus's role:
sent only to the Children of Israel but also Messiah
who will return during end times to end corruption and establish peace.
((Your Bible states that Jesus says: "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel."))

Both equally important to Islam.

Qur'an states: "Every soul shall taste death."
We believe. . .
â–º Muhammad (peace be upon him) has passed away and fulfilled this decree.
â–ºJesus (peace be upon him) did not die so he still has to fulfill this decree.

Therefore, Jesus's role consists:
(1) returning as Messiah
(2) to be victorious against the False Messiah
(3) end corruption & establish Truth, justice, and peace
(4) Live for a while
(5) Finally, then die like the rest of us --- thereby fulfilling the Qur'anic command.

That is why.

Excuse me ,
First I've read your question but permit me to ask who said that Jesus (pbuh) is less important than Muhammad (pbuh) . The Quran said : "“We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” " 2 : 285

and we have a chapter " surah " called " Muhammad " and another chapter called " Mary "

and Jesus was mentioned in the Quran 25 times while Muhammad was mentioned 4 times
But what do you mean as I understood that Muhammad (pbuh) is known as the prophet of Islam so Muslims naturally follow him in all his deeds also as the Quran was revealed to him which is the book of Islam .
We Muslims do respect and love all the prophets of God so Muslim men also can marry women of other religions as we believe in all religions but Muslim women can't marry except Muslim man as men of other religions don't admit the prophet hood of Muhammad (pbuh)

Thanks and sorry for inconvenience
God bless you

Abraham was a Muslim. He disassociated himself from idolatry and submitted himself to the one who created him, the Supreme.

Jesus was a Muslim. Those who followed his teachings were Muslims. To those Muslims, the creed of belief would be something like "There is no God but Allah and Jesus is His Messenger."

Muhammad was the final messenger of Allah, sent to all humans and jinn. He was a Muslim, his followers are called Muslims, and to us the creed is "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger."

Yes, we Muslims accept Jesus as the Messiah but not the son of god [i.e. Allah].

Allah said,'' [And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah ].'' [3:48].

H again said,'' O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.'' [4:171].

Jesus is not the son of Allah Allah created him. He said,'' They have certainly disbelieved who say, " Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.'' [5:73].

But Jesus was not for us. He was sent to people of Israel. He was sent for a limited time and place. The validity of his expired the day the last prophet, Muhammad SAW appeared.

Jesus himself prayed to god [i.e. Allah]: He then advanced a little, then bowed and prayed, saying: "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup from me, but not as a my will, but as You will." [Matthew 26:39]

Will a son prostrate infront his own father? Obviously not. He worshiped a being of a higher standard than him.

Jesus was a Muslim: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jesus-was-...4586961335

Jesus himself admitted that Muhammad SAW was the last prophet. Muhammad SAW prophesied in the Bible: http://www.islam101.com/religions/christ...mBible.htm

In the Quran,'' And call to mind when Jesus, son of Mary, said, 'O children of Israel, surely, I am Allah's Messenger unto you, fulfilling that which is before me of the prophecies of the Torah, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me, his name being Ahmad. And when he came to them with clear proofs, they said, this is manifest sorcery.'' [61:7].

Muhammad SAW's teaching wasn't limited for a time or place. He was for the whole universe and for people of all-time. Regards.
