Additional skills for online marketing?
So, I'm at university studying for my marketing degree. I know alone the degree is not enough and because I want to go into online marketing, I don't feel there are enough modules on the subject. (A specific course wasnt available). So I was wondering what are some potentially very useful skills and techniques that I could learn and improve on in my own time? I heard that copywriting is quite a good one and reading up on PPC (pay per click). Any skills or knowledge of certain software that marketers here have that they have found to come in very handy?

Thanks for any help. :]

Before using your hard earned money on PPC ads like Google adwords or Facebook ads. I suggest using cheaper alternatives for marketing while learning. The buzz word in marketing online is targeted traffic. If you can use a technique to direct targeted traffic to your product, you are on the right path to online marketing success.

There's a great online marketing software developed by a team of experianced online marketers. You can check the info here http://www.slideshare.net/curtlectual/af...rs-toolkit

Log onto Careerbuilder.com and take a look at the job postings for entry level marketing positions in the city where you want to work after graduation. Take a look at the "required skills" section. That will show you exactly what employers are looking for from recent graduates.

And, bare minimum..... make sure you can code in HTML. That will give you a huge advantage - no matter what you decide to do in online marketing.

I know it can be frustrating trying to increase your income, especially in our current economy. After a year of searching and trying different things, I finally found something that is working for me. Maybe it will work for you too.

Good luck to you!

pay per click is currently one of the best fields in marketing, offline marketing is slowly a dying trade and interactive marketing is quickly the most popular source of business. I'd strongly suggest reading the Google university notes and perhaps testing your skills by branding yourself on adwords, perhaps by keywords like copy writer + your city and advertising yourself using ppc, this will teach you to respect budgets, teach you how to optimise and impress any potential employer that you have the capability of marketing yourself so you can assist them to market their brands also.
