Does this shy guy like me?

okays so It's a really long story but I fell in love with a guy in the year below me almost a year ago and ever since literally he is the only thing that has given me hope in my life the past year because I've been dealing with a lot. I'm over 16 by the way. So before the summer people asked this guy (who is INCREDIBLY shy, like It's unreal how shy he is) if he liked me (at the time I didnt even know he knew I existed but our school is small so) He denied it but when the girl asked if he thought I was pretty he said yeah. I'm also a shy girl who acts confident around others but soooo awkward with him. There were rumors going around that I liked him/ or that he liked yet everyone found out I liked him but thankfully that's almost all blown over! He ignores me a lot but sometimes gets these random boosts of confidence and would walk right up to me and see what I was doing or something or before Christmas he started saying hey to me a lot. just before and After the holidays however he became verrrrry awkward and extremely shy again, so I decided to get the courage and start to say hey to him. A few days later he waited and walked into school with me and talked to me but this week has completely ignored me again. I'm also sorta ignoring him because Ive been really depressed (though I act soo happy in school around everyone) He texted me first once or twice last year but the other few times I started it. It hurts so much when he ignores me. Yet he told me ethought I liked hs friend before but honestly he constantly sends mixed signals to me. All I want to know is whats going on inside his brain/ mind? lots of guys in school say Im the prettiest in the school (even thought I dont feel it because I have low self-esteem:/ ) but I just wish I knew what to do because I really am in love with him and Im certain about that. Could you please help me with some advice if you can? :)he also hates texting and social media and stuff haha

if he won't have the balls to talk to you, then (as hard as it may seem), you're going to have to do so, if you want to possibly pursue a relationship with this guy in the future. talk to him often (even if you do sound awkward, it doesn't matter tbh) so he feels comfortable around you and he'll start talking to you himself once he gets out of his comfort zone (:
