Assume the identity of one of the characters from hunger games, and pretend.

Depends. . .there are two meanings to role play, but I assume you refer to the one.
Role playing is when you write a story with another person! It's really fun, actually! I role play with my sister all of the time. What you do is you pick a character, original, or from some other thing, and you write a story with yourself controlling and leading the character in the story. It's like writing about a character with another person, in order to form it into a story. Let me give you an example with two people- myself, and my sister.

Me: It was a beautiful spring day in the town of Brunville. The sun was brightly shining over the land below. Henry thought that is would be a wonderful day to go on a picnic in the nearby part. Pulling out his cell phone, he gave a dear friend of his a call.
My sister: Across the town, Amilia opened her phone to the call of her best friend. Opening up the phone, she answered, "Hello?"
Me: "Hey, Amilia! Would you like to join me on a picnic this afternoon?" Henry asked.
My sister: Amilia smiled softly to herself at this idea. Tracing the hem of her shirt with her fingers, she nodded quietly. "I would love to! I'll meet you there."
Me: "That's great," Henry declared, hosting his basket onto his arm. As he left out the door, he eagerly looked forward to their afternoon together.

See? It's pretty simple. You take turns adding parts to the story, highlighting one character as your own. You control that person- but you cannot control the other role player's man.
Overall, it takes a lot of practice. I've been writing and role playing since I was a little kid. Good luck!
