Is it weird that I hate parties?
I'm 17 and most people my age party all the time. I used to get invited a lot but I would always find reasons not to go. I would go SOMETIMES but I really really really hated it. Don't get me wrong, I'm an extrovert. I love people. I love socializing. I like being around big groups of people too.. but the teenage parties are just ridiculous.

I had the misfortune of walking into a party last night with the guy I was with. He and his friends like to throw a lot of parties but I never go. He said that it was only going to be a few people but when we pulled into the driveway there were tons of cars and a TON of people. We only stopped in for a minute to talk to his friends but I wanted to leave SO badly. I hate the drama that goes on there. I don't like to get piss drunk either, it feels awful. I AM a teenager and I do like to smoke weed on occasion but I'd rather just do it around a campfire with people that I like and just have a laid back night.

At these parties the music is always too loud to be able to even speak to anyone. Like I said, I like to socialize, I'd rather go to a party with relaxing lounge music and be able to talk and meet new people. I don't like the TYPE of people who are at these teen parties either. All the girls wear the sluttiest outfits.. they don't even make sense. They can't even pass off as being reasonable. One girl was wearing a sweater.. with leggings.. but it was a cropped sweater... and uggs. Now, I have no problem with leggings as pants but there are outfits where it works and outfits where it looks like you're jus trying way too hard.

Additionally.. the way the girls behave at these things. I saw a few people that I knew and hadn't seen in a while. They came right up to me and we chatted for about 5 seconds.. but I'm sure as soon as I left they probably had bad things to say about me... for no reason.

People lie and cheat and are just downright rude to each other at these things. Does anyone actually like parties like this or do they all pretend to just so they can seem cool?

I feel like a lot of the behavior is so immature. Everyone is competing with each other and on edge.. there is literally just no way to relax at these things. I DO like energetic upbeat things.. but not in that form.

Is this weird? Or do the people who go to parties actually hate parties too?

no, it's "normal" if there's such thing. it's fine. people are different, therefore have different interests. I don't see how it would be weird.

probably a lot of people go to parties and don't necessarily enjoy them... it's a waste of their life though. why do that?

Idk I like parties but sometimes I find an excuse to not go. Like I got invited to this party about a month ago but I honestly just didn't want to go because I just didn't feel like it. I can see what you're getting at about too much drama, but honestly that's what most teenagers do. It's not weird that you feel this way. And the reason people should be going to parties is to have fun, not to be cool. People that do that are not cool, lol.

I don't like parties either. I prefer snuggling up with a book.

I'm super social but hate parties too. My friends tell me that I'm a small-medium social gathering person lol. Parties are just too crazy for me. So no it's not weird
