The hash tag means you put a # then a topic and if lots of people use it the hash tag is shown off on the front page. re-tweet means to show to all your followers (people who see your tweets) what someone you are following has tweeted.

The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet.
