How do you become a social marketing consultant?
I have a bachelors degree in Advertising and have a little more than a year of advertising experience. I have not done any internet marketing or social media marketing. I want to get into social media marketing but not sure how to start. I have done research and know the basics of what social media marketing is. But I want to know how can I get into social media marketing. Are there any certification that I can get online (preferably free)? It would be nice if there are any examples of how people have gotten into this business. All feedback is appreciated.

For starters if you put this frase in google every ebook on the internet for Social Media Marketing will come up : "social media marketing filetype:PDF" (without the quotes) cut & paste that to you google browser. Also in a differnt brower window type in "Perry Belcher" he is the best in the world in social media at the tune of over $100,000 per month. Good Luck!

I agree and will second the recommendation to check out Perry Belcher's course.

That being said, here's another piece of advice after reviewing some material...

Get some case studies up. Get into the mix so you can show off some results you've created. These really don't take long as nailing page one on Google isn't that hard if you're using the right properties and doing the right keyword research.

Hope this helps.

Nice tip on how to use Facebook HTML

Custom HTML - this one’s a little more technical but when you create a fan page you will see that your page comes with tabs for various categories of content you create (each tab has it’s own URL so you can promote each section on your fan page around the web). Using the Facebook Mark-up Language (FBML) you can create custom boxes of HTML content, like newsletter sign-up pages, blog RSS feeds, and white paper downloads just like you might on your web site. FBML is a Facebook application you can get here.

You can become a Duct Tape Marketing coach and be an expert in Social Marketing.
