How do friendster, Facebook and other global communicator creater earn money?

Like for Mr Mark's creation FACEBOOK, how does he earn money from there? And i have heard bloggers earn money, how do they do it? Is it like just posting their stuffs online for sale and they sell it for money?

Generally, they get all their money from advertisements. So when you're on a website and you see a banner at the top, bottom, or side page they get paid for putting it there. Depending on the advertiser, they can get paid per view, paid per click, or paid per sale.

Also, some sites make money from donations. So people who really like a site or blog and donate money to the owner to cover the expenses of the hosting (because it can be expensive to maintain a popular site)

So, if it's a free place (like facebook) and don't charge any fee to join, then they are making their money through advertisments on their site.

Ofcourse advertisement. The more people they get, the more money they make. Because sponsors see that they're network is full or whatever they call it. So they get more sponsors. But just anybody can't do it. You need to know lots of things and how-to stuff. It's not easy at all. You wont believe if I tell you the number of these "Global Communicator" website. How many do you know? See, it's not easy to be popular.

welll facebook gets money from ads and for the application (and i am sure there r more) where u have a pet, u can earn "munny" from doing servey from a survey site.
