Community / Social website?

I'm looking for a website that allows club members to have personal profiles, send private messages and create forum like posts. A member directory that focuses on basic info and a large photo like a dating site ... age, gender, location ... and can be made members & invite only. Paywall is a bonus. So a mix of social network and association site, without the need for file sharing or heavy collaboration, with a decent looking member directory.

Facebook groups are out of the question.

Maybe something like Ning, or Groopt? Maybe there's something closer to what I'm actually looking for?

Maybe you could go with wordpress and install and customize buddypress plugin and some other plugins?
Ofcourse only if you are willing to pay some programmer.
