I have a neck tattoo and want to join the US Air Force?
I have a gold childhood cancer awareness ribbon tattoo on the back of my neck. I plan on joining the air force after graduating high school, would I have to have it removed?

I was also planning to get dates added underneath.

A rule of thumb is that if you can see your tattoo over your shirt collar than you need to get it removed, tattoos should not be seen while in uniform even if it is partially showing.

Basically - NO.

No Visible Tattoos.

Get rid of it. You will NOT be allowed to enlist with it at all. Nothing allowed on the neck or face, nor can any ink be visible while in uniform (to include the PT uniform).

So answer this: IF you are younger than 18 (you mentioned being in high school), how did you get a tattoo? Did your parents sign off on that? Are they that unintelligent? Allowing a child to get pierced ears is one thing. To allow mutilation by ink is child abuse.

The fascination people have with trailer park trash stamps is a mystery to me.

So get rid of it, never get another one, or you'll need another plan because it WON'T involve the military!

Getting a neck tattoo is a pretty bad decision. Basically like a tramp stamp, it shouts "I'm trailer trash".

Sorry, the military doesn't take folks with neck tattoos anymore.

ABSOLUTELY no neck, face, or head tattoos allowable in any military branch. There are no exceptions or waivers, period.

Anyone who tells you anything difference is either lying or profoundly ignorant.

Either get it lasered off or accept that you are a permanent civilian.
