Are my friends trying to get me to buy products?

The ads being shown are 'liked' by your friends. They are just shown to target you (the ads NOT your friends).

Facebook calls these "Sponsored ads". Your friends like something and all THEIR friends see the product or service telling you that your friend liked it. Facebook sells the info to third parties, who use it in their ads.
