Is befriending her first the best way to go about this?

I am a senior in highschool and I really like this sophmore in my school. It all started last year when we had a class together, and I started to really like her. She sat across the room and I was always very shy around her. I started sitting with her at the end of the year, but i was really shy and awkward with her. I was also fat at the time. I really had to get this off of my chest, so after the last day of school I pretty much opened up my heart to her. She said I was a nice guy, but rejected me. Over the summer, i turned into a gym freak. I lost a bunch of weight, and she didnt even recognize me at the beginning of this year. I am now considered very good looking by girls, and she was in complete shock when she first saw me. She smiled at me but i ignored her because i was mad at the time. Recently, I decided to hit her up on facebook. She got really excited at first and liked my profile picture as soon as i messaged her. She seemed some what interested, but now i can tell shes not. The thing is though, I feel like I can change that, but I always act so awkward around her. The way im thinking is best to approach this is by becoming closer to her as a friend. I feel like this is my only shot because I know that im good looking, so getting out of the friend zone will be easier for me then most, and I feel like if i get closer to her ill act more like myself, which i think she really would like. Is this a good approach? Thanks!

it seems like you missed the window. she was interested but she thought you weren't so she has given up on you. but befriending her isn't the way to go. you just gotta make her confused. hit and run! when you think you really made an impact, begin an all on assault. good luck.
