What are some careers that combine business and broadcast journalism or marketing and social media.?

I'm really into the media industry which is why I want to pursue a career in broadcast journalism or somehow social media. But I know that these fields are very competitive and I want to make sure I have an edge (if that makes sense) so I'm really trying to figure out ways to combine the studies of broadcast journalism with an area of business. I'm also interested in learning about careers that combine social media with advertising and marketing. I know this sounds confusing but I need some sort of guidance. And if you have any advice for either of these career paths please feel free to share with me. Thank you so very much

I can give you some first hand experience and advice few if any would publicly mention.

The industry (as you mentioned already is competitive) is super saturated with people who see themselves in this discipline.

You won't find work, or even if you do, the climb up will be so laboriously slow, your second choice of flipping burgers in a McDonald's will pay the bills and seem like paradise.

In Canadian markets, if your female, the criteria for hiring is beauty, brains and bust. With emphasis on the latter. It is the cold hard fact of life. No doubt, the US market wouldn't be any different.
If your male, the entry in this business is a merchant of "gifts" at seasonal holidays to station managers and then learning the job first as a Go4.
