Both companies made an offer to me. Essentially the same role.

AppNexus, one of the greatest start-up stories in NYC and Twitter is Twitter based out of SF

AppNexus offered more money than Twitter

Silicon Valley or Silicon Alley?

Twitter is a big name company that everyone has heard of and will look great on any resume. But, they've already changed the world. I know they're still growing and looking for new opportunities, but their big hit is done.

AppNexus is less well known to consumers, but it will still look great on any resume as any tech company has heard of them. They are also still on their way to changing the world - if you work for them you will be a part of that. You don't get that opportunity more than once or twice in your life.

Thomas,

I won't argue the companies themselves because they're both great and I have an ever-so-slight bias toward AppNexus, which I co-founded.

What I will argue is for New York over the Valley if you're at a point in your life where you can make that choice. The vibrancy and energy of New York today is incredible. The tech/startup community, while still smaller than the Valley as a whole, is concentrated into a very small geographic area which gives it a much more immediate impact. I rarely walk out to get a cup of hot chocolate without bumping into a partner, client, venture capitalist, fellow entrepreneur, or strangely often, Henry Blodget.

Anyway, happy to chat offline about AppNexus specifically - DM me on Twitter Smile @bokelley
