Facebook friends are not like real-life friends. There are two screens and quite a bit of fibre-optic cable between the two people, for a start. He might want to keep in virtual touch, but not want to go further in RL.

"friend" is pretty meaningless on FB. FB has changed the meaning of "friend" from, well, a friend, to someone you vaguely know and may not even have met.

Being a "friend" on FB is nothing like being a real friend and is a world away from being his gf.
