How to make friends over text?

I need to know how to start a conversation with somebody I've never texted before. I'm not very social, and I have some friends on Facebook that I'd like to get to know. How could I text them even if I haven't talked to them much before at school, and how can I find conversation topics and know what to say?

If you have them on Facebook, look at there pages and go to there "likes". See if there is any of the same TV shows or music artists that you like... then talk about that.

Conversations revolve around questions and ideas. You can have a good discussion on one topic if you both keep contributing ideas and asking questions. Topics generally change through conversations as well.
