Off line it very much depends on the type of business. Service trades do well from leaflet drops and can rely on the results if monitored correctly. On line, you need to really promote your site. There are many ways apart from the google ones you mentioned, google 'webceo' and get a free download of a top quality site optimisation programme, backed up with online help and courses, and yours free forever, upgradeable for extra benefits should you feel you need them. Then there's blogging, works best either if you find sites that relate to your product and allow you to advertise or else by creating a profile with non specific content to your product and putting your link on your profile.

Most people do not realize the effectiveness of using a DVD or CD to promote their business or what they're all about. There are hungry engineers who would record your voice for $25.00 per hour and for $1.00 each you can have CD's made for you that you can send or pass around. DVD's are great as well. You can get an affordable hand held video cam, have someone film you talk and show. For $2.00 a pop (or less depending on the quantity) you can have a DVD made for you that you can pass out at trade shows (without even renting a booth!) and places like the fair to pass out your work. People may throw a brochure away without reading it. But they won't throw your disc away!
