Are MMOs social media sites?

I always compare games like WoW, Everquest, EvE and others to be like social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. The only difference is that they have flashy graphics and gameplay elements. What do you think?

I would say yes and no. Yes because they have a lot of social features that make them very similar to social media sites but no because they are fun stand alone games even if you don't talk to anyone where social media sites are only fun if you have a lot of people you know using them. So it's more like MMOs are games first social media site second and Social media is social first and sometimes flash games second.
