Why did he make me think he cared when he really didnt?

I don't understand why he did this to me we worked together and were good friends he's been with a girl 5 years but all his close friends knew they weren't getting on
Stupidly I got close to him no sex just kissing then for the last year he's only wanted to talk to me via text etc always making excuses why he couldn't see me
I was becoming panicky emotional everything
Through mutual friends I discovered he has split with her and they're in the process of selling the house soon
I wasn't with anyone for a long time and thought he really cared then towards the end hid his facebook profile even though others told me who were friends with him there wasn't anything to see
I think he's enjoyed the ego boost I have him but now feel do worthless
I deleted him off facebook it was pointless as he didnt really want me in there just saving face
Why did he do this. ?

I'm sorry you are going through this, its very painful. I'm sorry to say I don't think he sees you as a romantic prospect. I don't think he is using you as an ego boost as he seems to be avoiding you. I think maybe he flirted while things were going bad with the girlfriend but now realises you want more and he doesn't. Sorry but you should cut your losses and move on.
