how do i set my comments on facebook to private?

when i comment on pictures/statuses they show up on my friends' homepages.
i don't want this. how do i set the comments i post on other people's pages to where they don't show up on the home page?
it bothers me when my friends who weren't even in the conversation ask about it :c
