Facebook correct etiquette- dating?

I fancy this guy who is a friend of a lady I used to work with, I am friends with this lady on facebook but we are not really friends, and we don't hang out, she just came out for work drinks sometimes. He comes up in all her photos, he is her new flatmate/ friend. They are not dating there is a large age gap between them and I am 27.

What do I do? do I message him, or add him as a friend? what is the correct etiquette?
