Why do Windows updates seem to be endless?
If I, say...reformat my computer and do a clean install with Windows 7 Home Premium. I know that since that particular version was burned onto the discs that I have, they have of course put out a lot of various Windows updates, security updates and such. But it seems like they're not all at once...the Windows Update program itself seems to always find a new update, regardless. I can install the 170+ updates after a clean install and then when I restart, 10-15 updates are available again. Why weren't they available among the original list? Then when I install those and restart, more updates show up on the next restart. I install those and more updates show up. Why can't all of these show up in the Windows Update to begin with?

I have pondered that maybe it's because they are updates to the new updates that I add on each time, which seems feasible. But why can't I download them all at once? I've tried to find the full Service Packs online for Windows 7, but there only seems to be a SP1 that I could actually download. Most of the advice that I have read online said that it's better to just use Windows Update, but that seems to require restarting like 30 times and checking updates after each restart in order to get everything.

It's annoying but just keep going, your computer will eventually have them all installed. Then they'll release some more in a day or two with the specific intention of annoying you personally, annoying everyone else is just a side effect of Microsoft's annoyance vendetta against you, lol.

How about Adobe? They are the worst. Seems like every time I re-start my computer, there is an Adobe update.

Most of the updates Microsoft Windows pushes are to fix security holes that were discovered. The sad fact is, there are people out there who do nothing but find security flaws in Operating Systems or programs and use them to affect your computer maliciously. It's not surprising that there are updates on top of updates, especially if you have a freshly reloaded computer on your hands. Some of these updates that aren't in the initial batch of updates are usually updates TO the updates you just downloaded.

Unfortunately, Windows update system can be a chore, but it's better to be safe and download them all before you begin using your computer.

A small tidbit about Adobe and Java. These are two programs, that while necessary to view a lot of websites or watch online videos, are two of the biggest targets for hackers to find security holes into your computer. It's also important to keep these programs up to date.
