Why do certain people follow me back on Instagram when?

They usually don't follow back. I'm a guy and some people follow who have like for instance 750 followers but only follow 300 and they have been following me for a long time and "like" my pics. Why is this? First of all when I requested them, they had to request me as well because my profile is private, so it's not like they could see my pics from the begginning. I'm not complaining, I'm flattered just want to know why. And then there are people who follow me like the ones I just described above who rarely like my pics but yet still follow me. Why do they want me in their feed? I usually only update once a week, sometimes once every 2 weeks. Please read and answer the question thoroughly I just want some thoughts. What makes them want to continue to follow me even though they rarely follow anyone back and I'm talking about people I barely know
