Facebook App help - Request? Is it authentic?

So there is something like a Pending request sent to me by someone on Facebook on the app "My Birthdays":
<Name>
I want to add your birthday to MyCalendar <Accept><Decline>
"
The thing is, I really want to verify whether really he has sent it or is it some sorts of generated message which is sent randomly to people on his friends list?
I know it is an app, but I just want to know whether these messages are genuinely sent by the sender himself or are generated and sent randomly to his friend list by the app owners?
