Why do pro life americans debate about rape pregnancies when abortion on demand is legal?

"Pro-lifers" love the fetus but then hate the baby. They are the same people voting to cut welfare and health insurance benefits that affect billions of American children.

Because once we get out of this barbaric stage of human exostence it very well could change.

Very simple. The reason abortion on demand is legal is because if we made it only legal in the case of rape then there would have to be a trial to prove there was a rape before the person performing the abortion could do it without risking conviction for an illegal abortion. In the mean time the woman would be carrying her assailants baby. Combine that with how hard it is to prove rape was not consensual sex and you should get the idea.

The SCOTUS only saw a right to abortion in the case of rape and incest or to save the life of the mother, but they said a woman has a right to privacy and does not have to go through trials to abort the baby. So if you can get rid of the right to abortion in the case of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother you have ended abortion.

Because the extremely rare pregnancies due to rape are the only desperate argument pro-choicers really have to justify legal abortion on demand.

Pro lifers argue that abortion would still be legal in the case of rape or the mother's life being in danger, while outlawing elective abortions that are done purely by choice.

There are about 1 million abortions in this country every year. Less than 3 or 4% are due to rape/incest and medical problems that pose a threat to mother and/or baby.

The rest are after-the-fact birth control.

Simple minded people will say, "They don't care about the babies once they're born!"

Wrong. Nobody's encouraging people to keep having babies. The point they're trying to get across is to be responsible and use birth control if you don't want kids.

By the way, don't they offer the morning after pill to women who've been raped? I'm pretty sure hospitals offer that when they do a rape exam and give the other meds they use to try to prevent HIV or anything else the rapist might be carrying.

So the morning after pill didn't come out until 2001? Well, gee, it's 2014 now, in case you can't find a calendar.

Birth control pills are 98% effective. Condoms are, too. Gee, wonder what would happen if someone were responsible and used both. Fewer unwanted pregnancies and less abortions. The fact is, you'd rather encourage people to be slaves to their libido than to practice responsibility. Why are you people all for pushing safe sex when it comes to STD's but not for preventing pregnancy?

Why try to ban guns that are not only legal but protected under the US Constitution?
