Do you get Facebook e-mails immediately?

So if your e-mailfunction in Facebook is enabled, like so you get an e-mail everytime someone comments on your photo and stuff, do you get that e-mail immediately after you would have gotten the notification on Facebook? Or are there a few hours inbetween the email and the notification? I'm not asking this because I'm stalking on some ex-boybriend or something, I'm asking this to know if my dad is still cheating on my mum or not. It's a long story but please answer.
