What is wrong with me when I was robbed a year ago and i am still not over it t?
I can remember the robbery almost like it was yesterday but ask me a question about before that or something that happened a week ago sometimes something yesterday and I cant remember it or I can just remember bits and pieces this is so frustrating for me- and I dont know what to do to help myself- I ve had nightmares since its happened I ve distanced myself from people I live a very plain life work and home - work- home I get very nervous in crowds and dont like goin to the store by myself or anywhere I trust NOONE- I ve had people come in my store and pull their finger up like its a gun as a joke and it makes me instantly mad and I get rude with them I never talked to anyone after this happened because I thought I could deal with it on my own- not so sure anymore as its been over a year and I m not over it - the other day a man came in the store with a hoodie on and I flipped out felt like I relived the robbery - I havent been happy at my job since the robbery but I have to work- so I ve been doin the best I can- I feel like people make fun of me for my forgetfulness and scaredness and it gets to me- Please tell me whats wrong with me and what I need to do- I ve already asked to change hours to where I m not there by myself anymore - I just want to be able to live a halfway normal life

If a robbery was so scary that you were afraid for your life, it may have caused you permanent damage i.e. PTSD. There is nothing wrong with you, those robbers are the ones who are wrong and who need to return what they stole or compensate you.

It sounds like post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD). I suggest talking to a counsellor.

There's nothing wrong with you. A robbery and all the feelings are traumatic. It's how it is. If you're feeling uncomfortable with it, see a counselor. Seeing someone who uses EMDR can help you. It's used for PTSD. It works. My psychologist used it on me recently and it's very effective. What happened to you wasn't your fault and it's okay to be feeling the way you're feeling. It's also okay to ask for help and be more comfortable and less affected by it.

Absolutly nothing is wrong with you. I have been the victim of three work place robberies and I can relate to so much of what you are feeling. I am so sorry you too have experienced such a terrifying and traumatic ordeal. I have a facebook page called Workplace Robbery-A Supportive Place for Victims-I hope you will check it out so that we can perhaps communicate further. I have a really great handout on there written by a Dr. Debra Holland for robbery victims-I find it to be very true and helpful-I hope you will check it out. gail
