What's happening with this?
There's this girl on twitter who is friend's with one of my best friend's. She's been saying some rude things behind my back, calling me a liar, a b****, saying I'm not a decent person. This has been going on for about 2 or 3 months. So lately I've been really upset because my best friend was planning to commit..err..suicide;(. So I posted on twitter 'I hope you're happy..' about the person who drove her to want to commit suicide. Well..later my friend told me to look on the girls (my best friends friends) twitter, so I did and it said things like 'Yes, Im happy, as long as you're miserable, I am very, very happy' and then later she put 'probably wasnt even about me, but as long as someones making you unhappy, its good enough for me'. Later I found out she's always looking on my twitter..that she always has a tab up of my twitter on her laptop. I was upset enough as it was, she made me a whole lot worse. She's actually the reason I started cutting, something that I regret..She's horrible. I don't know what's happening though..I don't know what I should do if it carries on. I've told my friends and they say its cyber-bullying but I'm not sure..

I am going to tell you what I would do; nothing who cares? stick and stones ETc. onm the other hand keep a very good record with screen shots and dates.

This may if it hasn't already become illegal. I worked for the police for five years in IT, it maybe tantamount to harassment and you could take a private lawsuit out, seek legal advice if this is distressing you.

YES, you ARE being cyber-bullied. One of the best things I ever did was join the Yahoo online abuse study group.

"...."Initially, there is often much denial by the victim. Over time, however, the stress begins to erode the victim's life and psychological brutalisation results. Sometimes the victim develops an almost fatal resolve that, inevitably, one day she will be murdered. Victims, unable to live a normal life, describe feeling stripped of self-worth and dignity. Personal control and resources, psychosocial development, social support, premorbid personality traits, and the severity of the stress may all influence how the victim experiences and responds to it… Victims stalked by ex-lovers may experience additional guilt and lowered self-esteem for perceived poor judgement in their relationship choices. Many victims become isolated and deprived of support when employers or friends withdraw after also being subjected to harassment or are cut off by the victim in order to protect them. Other tangible consequences include financial losses from quitting jobs, moving, and buying expensive security equipment in an attempt to gain privacy. Changing homes and jobs results in both material losses and loss of self-respect."

Surprisingly, verbal, psychological, and emotional abuse have the same effects as the physical variety [Psychology Today, September/October 2000 issue, p.24]. Abuse of all kinds also interferes with the victim's ability to work. Abrams and Robinson wrote this [in "Occupational Effects of Stalking", Can J Psychiatry 2002;47:468–472]: ..."

Get in touch with the moderators of Twitter. Read the User Agreement or Terms of Service with Twitter, because abuse on twitter and how to report should be somewhere on the User Agreement. Get in touch with the Twitter moderators by email and tell them you are being cyber-stalked, harassed and abused online, and give them enough information about the account that is tracking YOUR online actvity so that the moderators can track the activity of the account that is stalking and tracking your activity on Twitter, and then let the Twitter moderators do their job, and try to move on. Take a vacation/mental health break from Twitter.
