I am a Theistic Satanist. I did the dedication ritual and i now feel my God and Guardian's presence. I know what i'm talking about. What you read is LaVey's bible. Satanism is not his creation. LaVey just re-introduced it but in his own way. I can conclude one thing. LaVey supported Atheism, in a way denying Christianity. LaVey influenced many people to become 'elite atheists' as you mentioned. Therefore it is from my point of view an indirect reaction to xtianity. 1) Easily attained. 2) No need to be devout to Satan, just believing He symbolises Freedom or whatever. 3) No need to be spiritually connected fearing of victimisation by other religions as Satanists who preaches Satan have always been considered as murderers who perform animal/children sacrifices, etc..you know what i mean.
