It's not really "free market fundamentalism" anymore. "Market" implies human beings trying to decide whether or not a trade is a good idea. The majority of stock market trading these days is done automatically using algorithms. Thousands of trades done every second. You have to look at the millisecond scale to see what the algorithms are doing. You can make millions of dollars every day simply by having a faster computer located closer to the Stock Exchange (optical or electrical - they both have a finite speed) and being faster than the competition.

It doesn't take a genius to realise that 1000 TRILLION DOLLARS in derivatives debts is a bad idea! There's a reason why Russia and China are securing their currency by buying up gold - they're not daft free market fundamentalists. |
