I'm a writer, and need to know something about twitter and tweeting.?
I don't do either, but the character in the book I'm working on, needs to be proficient. Can someone suggest how one goes about opening a twitter or tweet account? How much it might cost? Is there a dictionary of twitter or tweet terms (I understand they use a lot of abbreviations) - or anything else that is going to help me sound like I know what I'm talking about? Many thanks.

1) You may open a twitter account by clicking the registration button on Twitter's website, then filling out the form given by adding your email, full name, preferred username and preferred password and your done.
2) A twitter account cost absolutely nothing, it is FREE.
3) A few twitter terms you may need to know will be written below by myself.

==========
Twitter Terms:

1) RT- Re-tweet (tweet another persons message)
2) Followers- People who subscribe to your twitter updates
3) Following- The people who you are subscribing to
4) Trends- The most talked about topics on twitter
5) Hash-tag- A pound sign (#) which is used to add context to your message
6) TMB- Tweet me back

Your normal internet abbreviations are used- here's a link

===========
Extra Pointers:

1) Tweeting is sending a message using twitter
2) Tweets are the messages that are sent
3) The account you have on twitter is a "twitter account"
4) No harm is done by creating an account, from this you would get first hand experience - Have FUN!
