Hacking Question (URGENT)?
Hello,

I am in a serious situation at work and I need someone's advice, desperately.

Basically, I found out on Tuesday that my Face Book had been compromised and that several unflattering messages had been left on a post I had made.

I have a BT broadband at home with router etc.

My question is, if a hacker is experienced enough, could they hack it and ensure that they left no trace on your system, making it physically impossible to track them?

All I have ever commented on Face Book is about football and other general things. I have come to the point of almost no return now and am afraid this might end up in court if police can't find any proof of a hack if its traced back to me and I am really scared right now and can't see a way forward.

Any advice greatly appreciated. I know I've asked a few questions on this already but I am very desperate.

Thank You.

Hacking your Facebook account has nothing to do with your connection or your computer.
All the hacking will be done at Facebook servers, so they can't find traces.
Some websites, viruses utilize your Facebook account to post or like some content while you are logged in to Facebook without you even know.
So, don't access any suspicious site.

The way in which people get in to your facebook is not by hacking through your router's firewall(that would be very uncommon) and onto your computer, they get your password by one of many methods. That could include a key logging virus on your computer, guessing common passwords, or capturing network traffic if you are using an unsecure connection like a wifi that isn't password protected.

Once they have the password they log into facebook from wherever they are at, not your computer. Usually when someone does something like that, it is in order to spam advertisements to other facebook users. It seems rather odd and unusual that a hacker who has no particular reason to ruin you, would make ruinous comments from your facebook account. Anyway, if it became a legal matter then the court could subpoena facebook for your account records and it would likely show that someone from another place logged into your facebook account.

It could be possible, however unlikely, that a virus could give someone enough remote access to actually browse facebook from your computer, but it's not common. You could start by deleting these bad comments, change your facebook password, and enable text alerts so that you can only log into facebook by entering a code they text to you. This means if a hacker got your password again, they couldn't get in unless they had physical access to your phone. You should also probably scan your computer for viruses. Download an anti-virus if necessary.

Is there any rhyme or reason to these messages that were posted, for instance...is there anyone who would like to see you in trouble? Did they post threats or a false admission of some crime, or anything that might have an agenda behind it? Were they just random vulger comments that might make people steer clear of you?
