Has anyone made a good friend by making a friend request to a total stranger on Facebook?

So may people have most or all of their facebook friends from just their small hometown. Has anyone looked at unknown people on facebook in far away places, made a friend request to that person who then accepted it with the two of you becoming good friends? If so, describe.

My best friend found this guy who was recommended to her by Facebook friend-finder with the same last name as her, and she added him, and then after that she started talking to him. They kept talking, started liking each other, and ended up dating online. After 2 years of online dating, webcamming, and chatting, he finally came and visited her from Canada and flew all the way to America where she was and they were so happy together... then he went back and she cried. They webcam everyday, still.

If this was a facebook commercial she would be that girl crying at the end saying, "Thanks Facebook."
