On what basis the listing of websites in google search is done?

Hi... I had this tiny doubt of how this stuff works.. Suppose I surf over for a lyrics, I get azlyric.net in the top... Why this is first?? Why can't other websites take over that position? On what basis are those websites sorted?? Please clarify this. Thanks a lot

On the basis of proper SEO process. How much a website is popular on Google, it depends on visitor of websites, no of backlinks that website has, no of social signals like FB like, Twitter followers, Website comments etc. If any website has lots of pages it will get benefited for SEO means more pages, more backlinks, more link juice etc. Like you said AZlyrics always get #1 on Google, it does due to these reasons. other reasons are also there, but these are main reasons. Also this is a good site, i usually use this site to find any type lyrics. This site is very informative.

Mr. Nabajyoti Borsaikia has mentioned the points of why that is ranked very well in search results. I want to tell you about how any site can degrade from 1st position.
If you see ABC.com is ranked for lets say 50 keywords & ZYX.com is ranked 40 keywords in Google search results.
Google monitors both & other websites by the points mentioned by nabajyoti. Google has many parameters & Google checks it for each parameter to be positive. If any sites fails to that parameter Google slightly degrades that site's some pages due to low quality content or bad back links etc. If most of the pages are with low quality content & bad links that site will receive huge penalty in terms of rankings from Google. The final line is no one can stay stable over there for a long period. Everyone has to maintain his own quality as per Google guidelines.
