Would Xbox live and Playstaionnetwork be considered social media?

This is for help on a scholarship essay. I know that Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and all the others are social media but would you consider Xboxlive or PSN as Social Media. I mean you are playing a game with your friends and with strangers sometimes who are in other City's, States or Country's. You can dd people to contacts lists and such you can communicate with them both verbally and grammatically. So I would like to know what you thnk.
