What is a better field in terms of careers, HR management or marketing management?
First off I think I should say that I am a male. I'm choosing a post grad program. Its not that I'm bothered or believe the social stigma of HR being a woman dominated field but I've heard that It is quite sexist from others and that they prefer women. As for marketing I've heard it's competition is brutal and you're bound to be in the same position as you were after finishing your undergrad. Help from professionals in the field would be appreciated.

HR has often been viewed as a dead-end career step. That's not entirely true, but it's true in some cases and certainly still viewed that way.

I wouldn't worry about the social stigma being a woman-dominated field, nor even that it's sexist. There's some truth to that, but I know plenty of guys who are in HR and doing quite well. It's probably less sexist than marketing, frankly.

Depending on where you are, the competition in marketing can be fierce. But that's largely company-dependent.

Your choice should also depend on what you like doing. Marketing and HR are quite different. I've been in fields related to marketing (primarily public relations and communications), and I'd enjoy marketing. On the other hand, I really wouldn't like HR at all. But that's just me. Plenty of people feel exactly the opposite.

If you really prefer HR, go for it. There are good opportunities there. As I said, I'd personally choose marketing because I think there are more opportunities in marketing and because it allows you to better demonstrate your own personal skills and abilities. But there's no real one "right" answer.

Hope that helps.
