what are the laws for impersonating someone on twitter?
so about a year ago, i made an account on twitter impersonating one of my best friends, sort of like an inside joke between our group of friends. it wasn't really anything incriminating, it was just basically me playing out an exaggerated version of what he would tweet, if he had twitter.

this other girl made one as well (she was a close friend too) and did pretty much the same thing, around the same time.

fast forward to six months ago, my buddy's mom sees that someone made a fake twitter account of her son, gets extremely pissed (she never really liked me or any of his friends from the start) and goes psycho. screaming at him and stuff, gets him to call me so all i hear is her screaming in the background, says she's gonna call the police and all this shit. so we compromised and i removed anything to do with him from the account, and deleted it.

so now today, he calls because he says the account is still up. (its the account the girl made, she was never informed of the situation previously) so i'm saying no its not my account, you told me to delete it months ago, i apologized, i still feel really bad, but its not even my account so therefore i'm not able to delete it.

his mom goes on a rampage in the background, spewing threats towards my sister... something to do with the university she goes to and how "shits going down"
literally shrieking at the top of her lungs in pure anger. uncontrollable.

so, in my context, what are the possible ramifications? since i deleted it months ago, after an agreement on both ends, have remained best friends with this guy (since it was a complete joke in the first place, which he is completely aware of)

not to mention the fact that he is an 18 year old adult.

His mother has no standing to file charges since:

1. She wasn't the one being impersonated
2. Your friend, despite being the one who was impersonated, took it as the joke that it was intended to be, and,
3. Assuming that he's 18, his mother cannot file a complaint about this without his consent, and considering #2, he's extremely unlikely to give said consent.

Basically, his mother is being a mean-spirited, controlling tool who is going to look very stupid if she attempts to pursue legal action. You should be safe.

Edit: To the person who gave the thumbs-down to me, feel free to tell me where I'm wrong.
