Return windows surface?
Today I received a windows surface for Christmas. I am a big computer nerd, so I've wanted one for a little while. While I love the clean look and amazing physical features, there's a massive wall I hit: desktop mode doesn't actually work like a desktop. I did some research and it turns out that the processor the surface has doesn't work with exe programs. Because I use programs like that all the time, it makes the entire desktop mode completely useless. Sure, its nice that I can use some of the apps and stuff, but the windows appstore is so empty there's hardly any use for this. Should I return this and get a different tablet or something? Or should I just sit here with a tablet that looks nice but doesn't have whole lot of use? Are there any tablets that actually run a windows operating system that may be able to also run exes?

I am typing this on my Surface RT device. Nothing wrong with it at all, great device, nice and cheap for a 10.6" tablet. But it is NOT a laptop replacement. It is a tablet.
I use OneNote, Facebook, games, web browsing, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. It is a perfect device for all those.
But, if you want to run 'exec files, then you need more of a laptop replacement. Something like the Dell Venue Pro 8 (or 11) or Lenovo Miix might suit you better.

Last I looked, the Microsoft store had 140,000 apps.

Doesn't have a lot of use? USB port, option to run Powerpoint on a projector with an adaptor, kickstand, etc. Of course if you don't have the optional keyboard it can be a little tricky. This isn't a games tablet but one to do serious work on.

If the above doesn't pertain to you.... return it and get a gaming tablet.
