What does the hash-tag thing mean on twitter? Thanks

A hashtag, #, is basically used in the beginning of a specific word. Other people in the world will use hashtags to tweet about it. If you search up the hashtag later, you will be redirected to a page full of tweets from random people that have that specific hashtag in their tweet.

Note that if your twitter account is protected, your tweets with the hashtag will not register in the hashtag feed along with everyone else's. You can still use the hashtag, but your tweet will not show up in the hashtag timeline because having a protected Twitter account means people who haven't followed you will not be able to see your tweets.

If your Twitter account is UNprotected, your tweets will show up in the hashtag timeline along with those other people in the world.

For example, if my unprotected Twitter account did this:

Wow! This day is pretty boring... but I still managed to have fun at home #likeaboss #lol

This means I have used two different hashtags. If you search them up individually, you'll get different feeds.

I hope this answers your question.
