Why do people put themselves down?

I know this boy on instagram that's so sweet and funny but I just realized that he's very critical of himself,at first I thought he was just being funny but now I'm starting to think there's something wrong with it,he'll be like"foreveralone" or "I'msofat" or "imacreep" or "I'm a nerd" do ppl do this to make you laugh or is there a deeper meaning?

You should ask him I he is doing it to be funny. If he is not he probably has low self esteem and needs a friend to support him and make him feel good about himself. He needs Someone to tell him why he is a good person and to remind him who he is and that he shouldn't be afriad of being himself. Cause I sometimes have low self esteem and I know how it feels you feel like your not worth it and what u say doesn't matter what u say... It's not fun
