How do you tell if someone deactivated their Facebook?

When I click on a previous message from this person it says Facebook user and there picture. When I went back to we're they commented on one of my statuses the comments they made are still there. Does this mean their Facebook was deactivated?

This could be that you havnt loaded Facebook up properly or that s/he has deactived their account

deactivated facebook account will lose each and every thing made by them their comments on their own status or others status and all pictures. You cannot see any thing even if you will type their name you cannot see their profile. You can see only chat messages in your inbox.
