I'm relocating there because I will be studying at the Conservatory. Any advise on finding a single room? If you know someone who is looking my facebook is: https://www.facebook.com/REDDROCKSTAR

If you are worried about dishonest landlords and roommates, don't rely too heavily on Craigslist and other sites where literally anybody can post an advertisement.

Talk to friends who are already living here. Go to a real estate agency that works with renters. Contact property management firms directly. Always meet people you want to do business with in person. And don't commit to anything until you have a written contract. In other words, do it the old fashioned way.

This is no joke in cities where demand far outweighs supply and competition is fierce (e.g. New York, San Francisco). Horror stories abound about fly-by-night landlords engaged in discrimination, intimidation, theft, locks being changed without notice, people being swindled out of their deposits, and so forth. Such incidents are far less likely when you go through a professional gatekeeper.
