Need help in a question about friending someone?

I want to add a friend from my old school that I knew but never really spoke to but I am afraid of the fact there is a "I do not know this person outside of Facebook" button. I don't want to lose my profile.

You can always send them an inbox message first letting them know who you are, that way they'll recognise your name.
